One of the most visited sites in Italy. Allows nowadays a view of what remains of the ancient  splendours of the Roman Empire in 80 B.c. Pompei  covered with ash and lapilli from volcanic eruption from Vesuvius in 79 A.d. and rediscovered in the early 18th century randomly during excavations for the extension of the railway to Naples/Pompeii/Porches, gradually brought to light the magnificent villas, amphitheaters, frescoes, statues, theaters, and whatnot, all collected mostly in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples to show the prosperity of this city in the past. A city that still tells it self, its inhabitants and its daily life through objects, paintings and architecture.
